"ST. MARY'S ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION "IT'S FOR THE KIDS"
SMAA seeks to provide recreational youth sports opportunities within the guidelines provided by the Diocese of Trenton and the Parish of St. Mary. Our first priority is the safety and enjoyment of the children who participate in our programs. In keeping with these principles, all coaches must be certified through the Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. Clinic and complete instruction in the Virtus Protecting God's Children Program. In addition, the Diocese of Trenton conducts background checks on all SMAA coaches, referees and administrators.
SMAA offers recreational soccer and basketball for boys and girls. Our Fall and Spring soccer leagues are open to pre-school, kindergarten and elementary school children ages 4-14. Basketball is offered indoors in the Winter and outdoors in the Summer for children in grades 2 through 8. These programs focus on fun and fundamentals, with each child participating in at least half of each game. For applications and additional information click on the program of your choice.
In addition to our core programs, SMAA also offers age-appropriate basketball clinics for boys and girls. Our Spring Basketball Clinic is open to kindergarten and 1st grade students. Held on Sunday afternoons in April and May, this clinic is designed to introduce participants to the game of basketball. Elementary skills and the basic rules of the game are taught.
The Gregg Reidy Memorial Basketball Camp takes place in early October and is open to students in grades 2 through 8. Mater Dei boys basketball coach Bob Klatt and his staff provide instruction on individual skills and the fundamentals of team play. Participants are divided into two groups, 2nd to 4th graders, and 5th to 8th graders. Each group attends five sessions, held on weekday evenings.
