Next Sunday begins a very special time on our campus – the celebration of Catholic Schools Week. It's an annual event where our parish and school community celebrate the great gift of Catholic education.
It has been said that Catholic schools are nothing short of a miracle. Studies and reports have consistently shown that Catholic schools do a better job of educating students, as confirmed in one recent U.S. Department of Education study on Student Achievement. In our 69 year history of Saint Mary School, we share in this success story. Since the opening of our school doors, parents have been making extraordinary sacrifices to send their children to our parish school. In doing so, it demonstrates to their children that Catholic education is a high priority. As any parent can tell you, raising children today is a big responsibility with many challenges. One of these challenges is selecting the "right" school for their child. Parents today are constantly evaluating and re-evaluating their many options. When children are enrolled in Saint Mary School, they are enrolled into a family. Our students are welcomed into a loving, safe, caring Catholic environment where the entire community of parents, teachers, students, and parishioners are committed to each student's spiritual, academic, and personal formation.
Education has become a political hot button in recent elections, which is another reason I believe we need Catholic schools more now than ever. Parents can be assured that there are no competing agendas at Saint Mary School or outside influences on curriculum. Our mission is clear, to provide for our families a school that is academically excellent and passionately Catholic.
I want to invite and encourage all our parishioners with school-age children to attend the Open House at Saint Mary School next Sunday, January 30th, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Come and see what our 500 plus students are experiencing every day. To register for the Open House, contact Saint Mary School principal, Mr. Craig Palmer, at 732-671-0129, ext: 303. To our parishioners, I want to honor you and thank you for your enthusiastic support of Catholic education. I ask for your continued prayers that the Good Lord will abundantly bless our work and the mission of Catholic education here at St. Mary's.
Have a blessed week! In Jesus and Mary, Father Jeff Kegley Pastor
