"The church and the world have a great need for Eucharistic worship. Jesus awaits us in this sacrament of love. Let us not refuse the time to meet Him in adoration in contemplation full of faith and open to making amends for serious offenses . . . of the world. Let our adoration never cease" (CCC1380 from John Paul II Dominicae Cenae)."
Saint John Paul II saw the great need for Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration and asked every parish to establish a Chapel. Since May 4
th, 1997, our parish has been blessed to have a Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel where Jesus is adored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Since the pandemic however, the chapel has been closed and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament has been held in Mary, Mother of God Church from 7:00am to 9:00pm.
The “original” adoration Chapel was the beautiful convent chapel that had a seating capacity of 75-100 people. It was located where our beautiful Mary, Mother of God Church stands today with the new chapel inside the church that closely seats 24 people. Even before the pandemic, people have expressed that our adoration chapel is too small and it feels like people are sitting on top of each other.
As I mentioned in my weekly pastors notes in the bulletin, I have written to Bishop O’Connell asking to designate Saint Mary Chapel as a Shrine under the title of “Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament Shrine.” A great amount of work has been completed in the Chapel that was built in 1905. Maybe it’s because it was my first church as a newly ordained priest in 1996, but it is my favorite church. It’s beauty is in it’s simplicity.
Most of the work in the Chapel has been completed by an army of volunteers, currently a bathroom has been added on to the first floor and is near completion. Quotes have been obtained for security cameras and new outside lighting and electrical box. It is my desire that we move the Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel to Saint Mary Chapel, that sits 250 people, as soon as this work is completed.
What we need now are people who are will to serve as Adoration Chapel coordinators, hourly captains at all levels, and of course, many more adorers. I make a special appeal to younger parishioners to serve on the Adoration Chapel team and become adorers If you are interested, please email me at

In the meantime, I want to invite all parishioners to visit Mary, Mother of God Church from 7am to 9pm and “pray.” Our church, our families, our country, our world needs healing. We need your prayers.
